Thailand! We are four days away from take-off! On Tuesday we will embark on a four month journey to Southeast Asia as Jarek does an internship with the political science department of BYU-Hawaii. We are so excited for this new adventure! It will be a little different from our last trip to China because we don’t speak Thai! It will certainly be an adjustment, but since we are there for so long, we have decided to learn as much as we can. We have already learned (not mastered…) the alphabet in the hopes to give us a head start. But before we head out, we have to move out. We are doing this trip backpack style, so we aren’t taking very much. That means that we need to pack up everything else we own and find a place to store it because housing at BYUH won’t let us keep our apartment while we are gone. (Lame.) We will store our stuff in somebody’s attic and retrieve it all when we come home. That makes three attics now that have some of our stuff in it – Wyoming, Colorado and now Hawaii. My parents always said I left a trail of stuff behind me, but I never thought it would get this bad! I I guess if something goes terribly wrong and we forget who we are, we can follow the bread crumbs through everyone’s attic and find our way home. Our schedule the next few days looks like this:
Today – Stall by writing this blog and then finish packing everything we own.
Saturday – Put all that stuff in somebody’s attic and move into our extremely kind friends’ apartment while they are on vacation.
Sunday – Let some other really kind friends feed us dinner since we are just about out of food (we are having hot pot! Yipee!)
Monday – Officially check out of our apartment by doing the cursed white glove check.
Tuesday – Fly to Thailand!
Look how many nice people there are around us! This list just shows you how great it is to live here where we are surrounded by such kind people.
A few people have asked what we are most excited for about this trip and the answer has to be as simple as this: I can’t wait to travel with my best friend again! It’s our favorite thing to do together. We get lost together, eat delicious (and sometimes terrible) food together, get yelled at by angry bus drivers together, climb mountains together, and learn a whole lot about each other through the whole process. Traveling has forced us to let go of selfishness and rely wholly on each other through thick and thin. I love it! My husband really is my best friend forever and I feel so blessed that we get to travel together. Thailand, here we come!
